How to: Do an incremental backup.
Solution:
Click the 'Start' button, select 'Programs', select 'Accessories', select 'System Tools', and select 'Backup'. Select the drives, folders, and/or files to back up. Save the backup set under a unique name. Subsequent backups run on this set will update only modified files.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu and select 'Programs'.
2) Select 'Accessories'.
3) Select 'System Tools', and select 'Backup'. (The 'Welcome to Microsoft Backup' window appears.)
NOTE: Folders, files, and drives can be selected at this point. When an entire drive or folder and its contents are selected, a check mark appears with a white background. Check marks with a gray background indicate that only part of the contents of that drive or folder have been selected.
4) Click 'OK' to acknowledge the 'Welcome to Microsoft Backup' window.
5) Click 'OK' to acknowledge the 'Full System' backup exploration window. (The 'Untitled-Microsoft Backup' dialog box appears.)
NOTE 1: Steps 3) and 4) may not be necessary if the screens have previously been disabled.
NOTE 2: The dialog box contains the 'What to backup' group.
6) Do one of the following:
Select Backup
a) To back up a drive, select the drive to be backed up in the left-hand window.
b) To back up only a directory:
1] Click the drive's icon. Do not click the box next to the drive. (The directories and files contained in the drive appear in the right-hand window.)
2] Select the box next to the folder. (The files contained in the folder are automatically checked.)
7) Select the 'Settings' menu and select 'Options...'.
8) Click the 'Backup' tab.
9) To make an initial backup of all files:
a) Select the 'Full backup' radio button.
b) Click 'OK'.
c) Click 'Next Step'.
d) Select the drive that will be the destination drive.

e) Click 'Start Backup'. (The 'Backup Set Label' dialog box appears.)
f) Type the name for the backup set label in the 'Backup set' box.

g) Click 'OK'. (The backup operation status box appears.)
10) To update an initial backup:
a) Repeat steps 1) to 6) above.
b) Click the 'Backup' tab.
c) Select the 'Incremental backup of selected files that have changed since the last full backup' radio button.
d) Click 'OK'.
e) Click 'Next'.
f) Click the drive that will be the destination drive.

g) Click 'Start Backup'.
h) Click the drive that will be the destination drive.
i) Click 'Start Backup'.
j) Type a name for the backup set.
